Rural Self Employment Training Institutes

As part of the national programme initiated by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) are set up by banks to provide vocational training to rural youth from marginalised communities and these institutes are monitored by the National Centre for Excellence of RSETIs (NACER) that are in most of the districts of India.

Since March 2011, ICICI Foundation manages the ICICI RSETIs in Udaipur and Jodhpur on behalf of ICICI Bank.

The primary focus of the ICICI RSETI model is on-demand training, wherein the requirements of various local markets are mapped for developing relevant and contextual curricula for the courses. This leads to better livelihood opportunities for self-employment among the youth with in-house training at the ICICI RSETIs.

Currently, ICICI RSETIs offer skill training in over 60 trades that have local demand, including domestic home appliances repair and services, cell phone repair and services, electric motor rewinding, plumbing and sanitary works, refrigeration and air conditioning, masonry, carpentry, dairy farming and vermi-compost making, goat rearing, vegetable nursery management and cultivation, two-wheeler mechanic, tailoring (men and women), etc. and a few product-based courses. Training in office skills such as office administration, computerised accounting, Microsoft Office, retail and sales management are also offered to youth who have completed high school, but graduate candidates are preferred to have a greater employment impact. Age criteria for an aspiring candidate should be between 18 and 45 years and the candidate should be able to read and write, with a minimum school qualification.

Besides vocational training programmes, training on financial literacy and enterprise development are conducted for all the batches. Regular sessions on physical education and yoga are also provided to all residential trainees for their holistic development.

After training, ICICI RSETIs ensure that the candidates’ credits are linked and support is provided in this life transformation journey to self-employment. ICICI RSETIs continues this support for two consecutive years after training, guiding the candidates to establish their own ventures.

ICICI RSETI Udaipur and Jodhpur have been constantly awarded as the best RSETIs among the 588 operational RSETIs in the country for the last 10 consecutive years and have been ranked as top 2 in all these years.
