1. What are the payment modes available for Direct Tax payments under ‘e-pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing Portal through ICICI Bank?

Below-mentioned payment modes are available under ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing Portal for Direct Tax Payments:

2. How can a Taxpayer log in to the e-Filing portal to initiate Direct Tax transactions using ‘e-Pay Tax’ service?

Visit ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-filing Income Tax portal.

The ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing portal has a ‘Pre-login’ section that can be accessed by the Taxpayer upon entering their PAN/TAN along with mobile number and OTP. Through this section, a few types of Direct Tax transactions can be initiated.

Additionally, the ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing portal also has a ‘Logged-in’ section which can be accessed by the Taxpayer upon entering their PAN/TAN and password. Through this section, all types of Direct Tax transactions can be initiated.

3. How can the customer download the Challan for Direct Tax payment in TIN 2.0?

The customer needs to login to TIN 2.0 portal for downloading challans for Direct Tax payments successfully processed through any mode. TIN 2.0 login link and path to download challan is as below.

Step 1: Visit Income Tax e-Filing portal

Step 2 - Login with PAN/TAN that is used for payment

Step 3 – Click on ‘e-File’ and select ‘e-Pay Tax’

5. Which digital channels are available to corporate customers for Direct Tax payments under ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on ICICI Bank’s e-Filing portal?

The following channels are available to corporate customers for Direct Tax payments under ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing portal:

  • Net Banking through ‘e-Pay Tax service’ on the e-Filing portal

Follow the below steps to check the payment status on the Income Tax Portal.

Step 1- Visit Income Tax e-Filing portal

Step 2 – Click on ‘Know Tax Payment Status’

Step 3 – Enter PAN/TAN, CRN & Mobile Number and click on continue. Please note that any mobile number (not mandatory that it should be the same number linked to PAN/TAN, for that specific transaction) could be used here for verification purpose.

Step 4 - Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your mobile number and click ‘Continue’

Step 5 – View payment status on screen.

A customer can make payments for Direct Tax transactions at any ICICI Bank Branch through Cash, Cheque or DD, by selecting the ‘Pay at Bank Counter’ option of ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing portal.

Please note that ‘Cash’ mode has a maximum limit of ₹10,000 only.

 

8. Can customers view the Transaction Preview page before making the payment?

Yes, customers can view the Transaction Preview page using the Challan Reference Number generated on the TIN 2.0 portal, before making the payment.

 

9. Is any acknowledgment or receipt provided by the Bank for Direct Tax payments processed under ‘e-Pay Tax’ service on the e-Filing portal?

Customers will receive the Payment Advice from the Bank on their registered e-mail ID. They can also download it from ICICI Bank Corporate Internet Banking.

16. Can the processing of the Bulk File uploaded on CIB be cancelled, if required?

Yes, the customer can cancel the processing of the Bulk File uploaded on CIB for processing Direct Tax payments, before verification.

Through bulk file upload, only Tax transactions with minor head codes 100 (Advance Tax), 200 (TDS/TCS) and 300 (Self-assessment) can be processed.

 

20. How can a Checker/ Authoriser approve a Direct Tax transaction initiated by the Maker on CIB?

Path: Log in to CIB > Tax/EPFO/ESIC > Tax Payments > Direct Tax > Tax Payment > Approval Queue for Direct Tax

 

21. How can a customer approve Direct tax payments on GIB?

22. Which mode should a customer select on TIN 2.0 e-Filing portal to make Direct Taxes payment through branches?

While generating a Challan on TIN 2.0 e-Filing portal for payment of Direct Taxes, customer should select the ‘Pay at Bank Counter’ option from the payment modes available on the portal.

 

23. Will Clearing Cheques also be accepted at ICICI Bank Branches for payment of Direct Tax transactions?

Yes, Non ICICI Bank Cheques and DDs will be accepted.

 

24. Can customers pay Direct Tax with other bank cheques at ICICI Bank Branches?

Yes, ICICI Bank and Non ICICI Bank customers can place a request at branches after generating the Challan under the ‘Pay at Bank Counter’ option and selecting ‘Cheque’ as the payment mode.

 

25. How can a Taxpayer identify Direct Tax transactions in the Account Statement after the payment is processed through Internet Banking?

To identify a Direct Tax transaction processed through Internet Banking in the Account Statement, the Taxpayer should check the narration containing ‘GIB’ and ‘DTAX’.

 

26. Do Direct Tax transactions have any expiry date on TIN 2.0 e-Filing portal?

A Direct Tax Challan will expire in 15 days, before which the transaction needs to be completed. If the payment is not completed within 15 days, the generated Challan will expire and the customer will need to reinitiate a fresh transaction.

 

27. Can transaction details be modified after a Direct Tax transaction is processed successfully?

No modifications/rectifications whatsoever can be done in the transaction details/Challans after the payment has been processed successfully.

 

28. Is there any provision for reversal of funds for Direct Tax transactions after the payment has been processed successfully?

The Bank will not be able to refund or reverse the funds, once the payment for Direct Tax transactions is processed. Taxpayers may contact the Income Tax Department for such requests and follow their guidelines.

 

29. If the Account has been debited but transaction status is still showing as ‘Pending’, what steps should be taken?

In such a scenario, customers are advised to wait for 30-45 minutes for the transaction status to get updated.

Customers can check payment status on the Income Tax portal for these payments on Link: e-Filing portal or follow path: Income Tax portal > Know Payment Status > Enter PAN/TAN, CRN, Mobile number & OTP. 

Note: To know payment status, the mobile number to be entered does not have to be the mobile number associated with that particular PAN/TAN.

 

30. What are the steps to be taken if the transaction status has been confirmed as ‘Success’ by the Bank, but shows ‘Awaiting Bank’s Confirmation’ for payment on TIN 2.0 e-Filing portal?

In such a scenario, customers are advised to wait for 30-45 minutes for the transaction status to get updated.

Customers can check payment status on the Income Tax portal for these payments on Link: e-Filing portal or follow path: Income Tax portal > Know Payment Status > Enter PAN/TAN, CRN, Mobile number & OTP.

6. Customers want to pay State taxes over the counter through cash/cheque/DD. Does the branch accept this mode of payment?

The Bank has mandates to pay over the counter through cash/cheque/DD in Gujarat, Odissa, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

 

7. Customer has paid the State tax, however it is still not updated in the Government Portal. What needs to be done?

Check the Statement of Account in case the account is debited. Wait for an hour and if it is still not updated, send a mail to cibhotline@icicibank.com .

 

8. What is expiry date for state tax payment?

The expiry date for state tax is specific to every states and same would reflect in GIB page to customer as state government directives (if applicable).

Tax Payment through CIB

1. How can the customer download the Payment Advice post successful tax payment on CIB?

Log in to CIB > Click on the ‘Tax/EPFO/ESIC’ tab > Click on ‘Tax Payment Inquiry’ > Click on the ‘search’ bar, input the criterion/criteria and download the Payment Advice.

Payment Advice can be generated basis any of the parameters that the customer inputs, example the date range, CPIN (Common Portal Identification Number)/ CIN (Challan Identification Number) and even the type of tax.

The transactions are listed basis the inputs entered by the maker in the search bar and the customer can then select the required transaction for which the Payment Advice needs to be generated.

 

2. Can the customer initiate tax payments on holidays with ICICI Bank?

Yes, the customer can initiate tax payments on holidays with ICICI Bank through any online mode.

 

3. When does the customer receive the Payment Advice?

The customer will receive the Payment Advice post successful completion of the tax payment. The same can be downloaded any time later.

 

4. How to check the tax transaction status on CIB?

The customer can check the tax transaction status by following the path:

Step 1: Log in to CIB by entering the credentials.

>In case the customer selects the ‘DASHBOARD’ option from the dropdown under the ‘Go directly on’ option, post clicking on the ‘Proceed’ button the customer will be redirected to the ‘CIB DASHBOARD’ page.

>In case the customer selects ‘Tax’ option from the dropdown under the ‘Go directly on’ option, post clicking on the ‘Proceed’ button the customer will be redirected to the GIB payment page.

Step 2: Click on the ‘Tax Payment Inquiry’ menu.

Step 3:  Select the date range under the ‘from’ and ‘to’ options.

Step 4:  Select the appropriate ‘Tax Type’ (Merchant) from the dropdown option.

Step 5:  Click on the search tab. (transaction will reflect on the screen basis the search criteria selected). The customer can search for all the transactions or a specific transaction.

Step 6: Check the status of the transaction under the ‘Status’ field.

Step 7: The customer can then check the complete transaction details by clicking on the Reference Number provided for the transaction.


5. In case the account has been debited but the transaction status is still showing as ‘Pending’, what steps should be taken by the customer?

In case the account has been debited but the transaction status is still showing as ‘Pending’, the maker is suggested to wait for 30-45 minutes for the transaction status to get updated. If it still shows as ‘Pending’ the customer can reach out to the RM or visit any Branch.


6. How can the customer reach out to ICICI Bank Customer Care for tax payment related queries?

The customer can reach out to ICICI Bank Customer Care by writing to :

7. Can there be multiple approvers in the maker-checker workflow?

Yes, there can be multiple approvers in the maker-checker workflow, as per the workflow setup requested by the customer.

 

8. When does one get the ‘not authorised to perform this action’ error? 

If one of the approvers is trying to approve the transaction before the designated approver, as per the defined workflow, then one can get the ‘not authorised to perform this action’ error. Ex: If workflow setup is defined as - A the maker > B the first approver and C the second approver (A+B+C) So once A makes the payment, if C is approving the transaction before B approves, then this error will be shown

 

9. What does ‘Awaiting Bank Confirmation’ status mean and what is the call to action for this?

If the transaction is still pending with the approver then ‘Awaiting Bank Confirmation’ status will reflect. The customer is suggested to wait for the approval or else reach out to the RM/ visit any Branch or write to cibhotline@icicibank.com

 

10. Can the customer register multiple e-mail IDs?

Yes, the customer can register multiple e-mail IDs, for all merchants or a specific merchant on GIB as per the requirement and can receive the Payment Advice as well on those multiple e-mail IDs.

Path: Tax Payment > Approvals > Register for receiving Payment Advice on e-mail ID for all merchants > Click on register multiple e-mail IDs through file upload for Payment Advice > (Upload the file) and then Submit

 

11. Can the customer view the total effective balance?

The total effective balance will be visible only to the approver for all the pending transactions under the ‘approval queue’ tab.

 

12. Can the customer view the challan validity?

Challan validity will be visible under the ‘approval queue’ tab till the transaction expires. All the old and expired transactions can be viewed on the ‘Tax Payment Inquiry’ Page.

 

13. Can the customer view the transaction journey and the details of the approver?

Transaction Journey/History tab is available on the portal to help the maker fetch various details & view the complete journey of the transaction. The details of the approver can also be seen on the same screen next to the Transaction Journey/History tab.

 

14. Does the customer receive any intimation for a failed transaction?

Intimation for a failed tax transaction will be sent to the customer through SMS & e-mail.

 

15. How to generate the report for tax transactions?

The customer can generate the report for tax transactions by following the below steps:

Step 1: Log in to CIB

Scenario (a): In case the customer selects the ‘DASHBOARD’ option from the dropdown under the ‘Go directly on’ option, post clicking on the ‘Proceed’ button the customer will be redirected to the CIB DASHBOARD page

Scenario (b): In case the customer selects the ‘Tax’ option from the dropdown under the ‘Go directly on’ option, post clicking on the ‘Proceed’ button the maker will be redirected to the GIB Payment page

Step 2:  Click on the ‘Tax Payment Inquiry’ menu

Step 3: Select the date range

Step 4:  Select the appropriate Tax Type from the options given in the dropdown

Step 5:  Click on Generate Report.

Tax Payment through Remittance

1. What type of tax payments can be made through Remittance?

You can make different types of tax payments through Remittance including Goods and Services Tax - Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval (GST - OIDAR), Direct Tax (Tax Deducted at Source - TDS, Expected Loss - EL, Withholding Tax, etc.) and Indirect Taxes (Service Tax).

 

2. Who is eligible to make tax payments through Remittance?

Any foreign entity having tax liability payable to the Government of India (GST, Direct Taxes or Indirect Taxes) but not having any physical presence in the country is eligible to make tax payments through Remittance.

 

3. Is a Bank Account required in India to make tax payments through Remittance?

No. A customer does not require a Bank Account in India to make tax payments through Remittance.

4. In the event of an excess fund transfer, will the remitted amount be refunded to the client?

Yes. The amount can be refunded to the client:

Scenario 1 - Before Conversion - If the funds are yet to be converted, then no additional charges would be levied.

Scenario 2 - After conversion - If the funds have been converted and issue pertaining to excess funds has arisen, then the remitted amount would be refunded after adjusting relevant conversion charges, which shall be borne by the client

 

4. If the client falls under the category of a Non-Resident Taxable Person (NRTP), can they make GST payments through Remittance? If yes, what details need to be provided for processing the same?

1. Yes, if the client falls under the category of a Non-Resident Taxable Person (NRTP), they can make GST payments through Remittance.

2.The client would require the Temporary Reference Number (TRN), as generated on Government portal with challan for processing the tax payment."

 

5. How to onboard a customer for making Tax Payments through Remittance?

To avail services, the Customer’s Bank (remitting Bank) has to provide a one-time 6-pointer updated KYC to ICICI Bank Business Identifier Code ID (BIC ID) -- ICICINBBNRI through SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications) message. This will be valid for 2 years.

The 6-points covered in KYC are as below:

1. Registered Name of the Remitter/ Investor -- Name, if the investor is an Individual

2.Registration Number -- Unique Identification Number* in case the remitter is an Individual

3. Registered Address -- Permanent Address if the remitter is an Individual

4.Name of the Remitter's Bank

5.Remitter's Bank Account No.

6. Period of banking relationship with the remitter.

*KYC should be shared by the Remitting Bank of the client through SWIFT only. KYC shared through e-mail or MS Excel or any other mode will not be considered valid."

 

6. What is the validity period for the KYC?

The KYC validity for Tax Payment through Remittance is 2 years.

 

7. Is there an amount limit while making tax payments through Remittance?

No. There is no limit on the amount for making tax payments through Remittance.

 

8. What should be done in case of receipt of insufficient funds from the client?

In case of receipt of insufficient funds from the client:

Scenario 1: Client has to provide additional funds as per requirement

Scenario 2: Client has to generate challan as per the funds received to the Bank

Scenario 3: In case the client wants to reverse the payment, the same would be reversed after adjusting relevant conversion charges, which shall be borne by the client.

 

9. What is the process of making OIDAR Payment ?

Steps for making tax payment through Remittance:

1. Customer’s Bank (remitting) to provide one-time 6-pointer updated KYC to ICICI Bank BIC ID -- ICICINBBNRI through SWIFT message. This will be valid for 2 years.

2. Payment to be initiated and details to be shared with ICICI Bank:

a. Share filled template for OIDAR payment request on ICICI Bank e-mail ID – oidar.gst@icicibank.com

b. Foreign Currency (FCY) Remittance (Wire-transfer) to be sent to ICICI Bank NOSTRO Account (as per the details mentioned in Currency-wise SWIFT details sheet in the payment request template shared) along with corresponding SWIFT message (GSTN or PAN/TAN or Indirect Tax Identification No.) and Beneficiary Account details are required to be mentioned mandatorily) based on the details mentioned in the template for OIDAR payment request

3. Once the FCY fund is received by remittance in ICICI Bank NOSTRO, it will be converted to INR amount

4. Details of actual INR amount converted, after deducting all applicable charges, will be shared with the customer by ICICI Bank team

5. Basis the details shared, customer will generate a challan on the respective Government portal, for the exact INR amount converted and communicated and share the downloaded challan with oidar.gst@icicibank.com

6. The ICICI Bank team will process the OIDAR transaction basis the challan shared and confirm to the customer on successful payment completion

7. Customer has to download the final challan from the respective Government portals.

 

10. What is the policy for refunding funds if the necessary documents / mandatory details are not received from the client?

In the event that we are unable to process a payment due to non-receipt of the required documents or mandatory details in SWIFT as mentioned in the process note, from clients or any other issue, we will ensure a refund of the funds within 15 days, in accordance with RBI guidelines.

 

11. What are the mandatory details that need to be ensured before sending a SWIFT?

Mandatory details include:

2. GSTN or PAN/TAN or Indirect tax Identification no (as per requirement), which should be same in the SWIFT, Template and Challan.

12. What is the TAT of FCY conversion?

If the funds are received before 4PM IST of a working day (basis respective currency market), then the conversion and processing will be done on the same day itself, otherwise it will be processed on the next working day of the bank.

 

13. How to determine foreign currency to be remitted against tax payment liability?

Steps for calculation of liability:

A. Identify Tax Liability - Determine the amount of Indian rupees (INR) you need to pay as taxes. This is usually based on your tax obligations in India.

B. *Derive GST on FC conversion - GST (INR) amount to be added to your tax INR liability amount (Refer indicative calculation to derive GST amount)

C. Exchange Rate – Check the exchange rates on our ICICI Bank website.
