What is a tax payment through the Bulk Upload functionality?


A tax payer can pay multiple direct taxes in a single file upload, through an eligible Authorised Agency Bank’s Internet Banking portal.

Who can use the Bulk Upload functionality?


The Bulk Upload tax payment functionality can be used by Authorised Agency Bank’s non-individual customers like Private and Public Limited Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships, Trusts etc. through an eligible Authorised Agency Bank’s Internet Banking portal.

Which Authorised Agency Banks are offering the tax payment through the Bulk Upload facility?


Currently ICICI Bank and State Bank of India are offering this service. The tax payer may engage with their respective banks, to know when the other Authorised Agency Banks are activating this service.

Which type of direct tax can be paid through bulk tax upload?


As on Jun 18, 2021, Advance tax, TDS/TCS and Self-Assessment tax can be paid through Bulk Upload.

Can multiple direct tax be uploaded in a single file?


Yes, a combination of TDS, TCS, Advance tax, Self-Assessment tax etc. can be clubbed into one file and multiple transactions can be initiated. Multiple PAN/TAN can also be incorporated into a single file, for processing. For more details, please contact the eligible Authorised Agency Bank.

What are the details required for processing Bulk Upload tax payments?


Bulk Upload files require the same details as used for a single payment on the TIN portal like PAN/TAN, major head code, minor head code, challan type, assessment year, breakup of the tax liability etc. The file format may be procured from eligible Authorised Agency Bank.

What is the transaction process for tax payments through Bulk Upload?


The tax payer has to prepare the file, as per the format shared by the eligible Authorised Agency Bank, as well ensure that the PAN/TAN entered is correct. The user is to log in to the Internet Banking portal of the eligible Authorised Agency Bank and upload the file. The Authorised Agency Bank will fetch the challan number from TIN2 and display it to the user. Based on the challan number, the user will make the payment in one go towards these multiple taxes. The Authorised Agency Bank will confirm the receipt of the payment to TIN 2. The Bank will provide a debit advice confirming the payment. The user will check the challan status, as well as download the challan from the TIN 2.0 portal, post successful completion of the transaction using the CIN/Reference Number provided in the debit advice.

Is there any maker checker flow functionality available?


The tax payer has to check for this functionality with the eligible Authorised Agency Banks offering this feature. ICICI Bank provides a maker-checker functionality for its customers.

Can the debit advice for all the earlier transactions be downloaded from the Bank’s portal?


Yes, the debit advice will be available in the ‘Inquiry’ section on the Bank’s portal, while the challan will be available on the TIN2 portal.

What type of taxes can be paid using the Bulk Upload functionality?

FAQs on Single Custom Duty Payment Initiation, through the ICEGATE portal

How do you pay custom duty through ICICI Bank?


With ICICI Bank getting integrated into ICEGATE, the Bank’s customers can make custom duty payments directly, by selecting ICICI Bank under the ‘e-payment option’ on the ICEGATE portal, and complete their transactions. Customers can pay by selecting either ‘Retail Internet Banking’ (RIB) or ‘Corporate Internet Banking’ (CIB).

How many challans can I select at once on the ICEGATE portal, to pay custom duty in a single go?


You can select up to 25 unpaid challans under the same IE Code and Location Code on the ICEGATE portal in a single go, to make custom duty payments.

Does ICICI Bank charge any fees to its customers for making custom duty payments, through the ICEGATE portal?

The Bank will not be able to reverse the funds, once the transaction is successful. The tax payer may connect with the ICEGATE department, to get their queries addressed, and follow the prescribed guidelines.

Can I make custom duty payments throughout the year i.e., 365 days?


Yes, custom duty can be paid throughout the year i.e., 365 days, between 04:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

From where can I download the Challan?


ICICI Bank provides debit advice on the completion of successful transaction. For downloading the challan, customers have to visit the ICEGATE portal.

Even after the payment is successful at the bank’s end, my challan status is still reflecting as “Transaction pending from Bank”. What should I do?


Please wait for 20 minutes, for the challan status to get updated.

Even after the payment is successful at the bank’s end, my challans are reflecting under ‘Incomplete transactions’. What should I do?


If the challan is reflecting under ‘Incomplete transaction’, please click on the ‘Verify’ tab and input the bank’s Transaction Number, as mentioned in your debit advice, and click on ‘Verify’.

Click on ‘Incomplete Transaction’ > Click on ‘Verify’ > Enter the bank’s Transaction Number > Click on ‘Verify’.

If after entering the bank’s Transaction Number, the challan is still reflecting under ‘Incomplete transaction’, please e-mail to gbprocess@icicibank.com , along with details like the CORP ID, USER ID, Transaction Reference Number, Amount, Date, IE Code, and a stepwise screenshot with the date and time stamp, etc.

While completing the transaction for custom duty payment, I have mistakenly closed the browser, or have filled the incorrect login credentials after landing on ICICI Bank’s Net Banking portal. Now, what should I do?


Go to the ICEGATE website, and check if the challans are reflecting under the ‘Unpaid transactions’ or ‘Incomplete transactions’ options.

If they are reflecting under ‘Unpaid transactions’, please select the challan and click on ‘Pay’, to proceed with the payment.

If they are reflecting under ‘Incomplete transactions’, Log in to CIB > Click on ‘TAX/EPFO/ESIC’ > Select ‘Indirect tax & Custom duty’ > Select ‘Tax Payments Inquiry’ > Select the Date From and To > Select ‘Custom Duty ICEGATE’ under the tax type > Click on ‘Search’.

The challan details would appear, check and note the reference number of the particular challan for which you were trying to make the payment. Go back to the ICEGATE portal, click on the ‘Incomplete transaction’ option, click on the ‘Verify’ tab, and input the ‘Reference Number’ in the ‘Please enter the bank Transaction Number’ section, and click on ‘Verify’.

If after entering the bank Transaction Number, the challan is still reflecting under ‘Incomplete transaction’, please write to gbprocess@icicibank.com , along with details like the CORP ID, USER ID, Transaction Reference Number, Amount, Date, IE Code, and a stepwise screenshot with the date and the time stamp, etc.

Visit icegate.gov.in and click on ‘E-payment for Custom Duties’ > Fill in the relevant details, like Document Type, IE Code (IEC), Location Code, Captcha and Click on ‘Submit’ > Click on ‘Print Transaction Receipt’ > Select the Date Range > Click on ‘Get Details’ > Click on ‘View’, for the transaction to be downloaded or print a challan for > Print Receipt > Under printer, settings, you will have an option to either print or save it as a PDF.

What is the path to recall the transaction?


For pending transactions, the maker/initiator can recall the transaction. The path for pending or recalling payments is: Tax/EPFO/ESIC > Tax Payment > Indirect tax & Custom Duty > Tax Payment > Approval Queue – Pending or Recalled Payments.

Yes, there is a request-based registration process, to enable the bulk file upload facility for custom duty payments.

Is there any restriction on the number of transactions that can be done through the bulk file upload mechanism?


Up to 499 transactions can be uploaded in a single file through the bulk file upload mechanism. We cannot upload the same file, again. If the file is successfully uploaded once, please change the file name and re-upload the file.

What are the timings of custom duty payments through bulk file upload?


Both initiation and authorisation of transactions should get completed by 06:00 p.m.

What is the TAT for getting a debit advice?


Debit advices for transactions made by 06:00 p.m., will be made available, on CIB, to the customers, on the same day.
