What is Hello UK Account? How do I apply for a Hello UK Account?

Hello UK Account is a current account offered by ICICI Bank UK PLC in GBP for Indians migrating to UK on work permits which allows you to open an account before leaving for UK.

Who can apply for Hello UK Account?

Any customer who has a valid Passport and UK work visa.

How do I apply for a Hello UK Account?

The account can be opened through ICICI Bank Limited branches in India. Please speak to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) sales or service staff in the ICICI Bank branch near you.

What are the documents required to open a Hello UK Account?

  1. Valid Indian Passport (containing your full name, address and photograph)
  2. Valid UK work visa
  3. Letter from the company HR confirming the Indian address.
  4. Valid Indian address proof

How do I receive the deliverables (debit card and cheque book) of my Hello UK Account?

Once you arrive in UK, please submit a request for issuance of debit card and pin by either visiting an ICICI Bank UK PLC branch or send the form through post, along with the letter from HR confirming the UK address. Within 120 days of account opening you should submit a valid UK address proof, any one from the below:

  • Letter from Department of Work and Pensions with National Insurance Number
  • Letter from HMRC with PAYE Notification
  • Utility bills - must not be older than 3 months (mobile telephone bills are not acceptable)
  • Bank/building society statement - must not be older than 3 months
  • Full UK driving license - valid photo card driving license (if not used as proof of identity)


How can I submit the request for my deliverable, if I am not near an ICICI Bank UK PLC branch?

I have not received my UK visa, can I apply for an account?

We will require your UK work visa in order to process your application for a Hello UK Account. Work Permit should be valid for more than 6 months.

What is the minimum amount required to open an account?

There is no minimum amount required to open a Hello UK Account.

What is the minimum balance that is required to be maintained in the account?

There is no minimum balance requirement to maintain in a Hello UK.

Can I open a joint account?

Yes, you can open a joint account. We will require a copy of the Indian passport and visa for the joint applicant(s). The joint applicant should also be moving to UK with the primary applicant, and should therefore have a valid UK visa other than business or visiting visa and provide marriage certificate additionally.

I am moving to UK from a country other than India. Can I open this account?

No, as Hello UK account can be applied by an Indian moving to UK on work visa from India. After you arrive in UK, you can visit any of our branches and open an account.

Do I need to be an Indian citizen / NRI (Non Resident Indian) / PIO (Person of Indian origin) to open this account?

A resident Indian or NRI holding a valid Indian passport with a valid UK visa is eligible for opening a UK account.

Is there a limit on the maximum amount that I can transfer from India?

Yes, there is a limit for transfer of funds into your account is as per the RBI's permissible outward remittance limit. You are required to mention the source of funds along with the purpose of remittance when performing a wire transfer (SWIFT).

When will the funds be credited to my account in UK when I remit the funds from India?

The funds will be credited into the account within 2-3 business days

Can I deposit funds after I receive my account number?

You can send money to your Hello UK Account any time after you receive the account number.

How will I get a confirmation of my account number?

Your application should be processed within 2 business days after submission at an ICICI Bank Limited Branch in India. You should receive a confirmation letter at your mailing address within 10 business days.

When will I receive the account number? How many days do you take to open an account?

The account opening process will take approximately 2 business days, assuming all documents are in order and no further clarification is required. The letter notifying you of your account number will be dispatched to your mailing address and should arrive within 10 business days.

What if I want to send funds back to India after arriving in UK?

You are permitted to perform any regular banking transactions through your UK account.
