What are the documents required? 

Documents required for phone based account opening are as follows:

Identity Proof Documents:

Passport

  • Incase of NRIs: India Passport
  • Incase of PIOs: Foreign Passport

Photo copy of the relevant pages of the passport where customer’s name, date of birth, date and place of issue, expiry date, photograph and signature of the applicant. 

Photocopy of valid work permit/employment visa (in case of expired visas, duly acknowledged petitions made to the Visa Authorities for renewal of such visa will be accepted as a valid document if the document permits the holder to stay in the country of residence, till the new visa is issued). 

The Bank account can only be opened as per the name mentioned on the passport. 

Non-Resident Status Proof:

  • Incase of NRIs – Valid Visa / Work Permit / Residence Permit (card)
  • Incase of PIOs – Visa is not required for establishing NRI Status. A PIO/OCI card or a PIO declaration is required.

Address Proof:

  • Overseas Address Proof:
    • Address on Passport
    • Utility bill, i.e. electricity bill, landline telephone bill, gas connection bill, water connection bill
    • Overseas/Indian Bank Statement (Bank passbook will not be accepted) with atleast two transactions initiated by the customer
    • Rent receipt along with duly stamped/registered lease deed (wherever applicable). The lease deed should be valid as on date of account opening
    • Letter from existing banker, this letter should clearly specify that the mentioned address is your communication address and that your period of relationship with the bank is more than 3 months
    • Residence permit (Government issued identity card)
    • Driving license (only if issued by United States of America or the United Kingdom authorities)
    • PIO Card (should be valid as on date of account opening)
    • Letter from government postal authorities
    • Shop License issued by government authorities, with your name and address mentioned (should be valid as on date of account opening)
    • Letter from employer duly notarized mentioning your name and address
    • For GCC countries, if employer’s address is a GCC country, then the name of the employer should be mentioned along with the overseas address.
  • Indian address Proof
    • Address on passport
    • Utility bill, i.e. electricity bill, landline telephone bill, gas connection bill, water connection bill
    • Overseas/Indian Bank Statement (please note that bank passbook will not be accepted)
    • Rent Receipt along with duly stamped/registered lease deed. Lease deed should be valid as on date of account opening
    • Letter from existing banker, this letter should clearly specify that the mentioned address is your communication address and your period of relationship with the bank is more than 3 months
    • Latest premium receipt from any life insurance company (depicting policy is in force as on date)

Self-Funding Cheque from own account overseas in case phone based account opening -  

NRIs applying for an account are mandatorily required to provide a self-funding cheque along with account opening form and documents. The cheque should be from own account in overseas geography, where the name in your overseas account and NRI account opening form should be matching.

Attestation of documents: Documents need to be attested by banker, notary or embassy.
