CLEAN INDIA

Clean India

Empowering people to build a cleaner tomorrow

ICICI tirelessly works on programmes that help make a difference to our society. As part of our mission, we support initiatives that are aimed at cleaning India and making our living spaces more hygienic. From construction of toilets in rural schools to cleanliness drives around our branches, we have played an active role in supporting the cause of a cleaner environment.

Working towards creating hygienic environment
Many rural schools in India lack basic hygiene and sanitation. At ICICI, we believe that improving sanitation levels in these schools is important to provide a cleaner and healthier environment for the students. Through the Swachh Bharat – Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, the ICICI Foundation has assisted in constructing over 500 toilets in over 100 schools across rural Chhattisgarh. This initiative was a thoughtful way of providing schools with adequate sanitation facilities. Special emphasis was placed to ensure safety of female students. After completion of the programme, the management committees of these schools were provided with training to ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of these facilities.
The initiative directly contributed to improving attendance of students in these schools.
Ensuring cleaner branch surroundings
In November 2014, Ms. Chanda Kochhar, our MD & CEO announced ICICI Bank’s participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Launching the initiative, Ms. Kochhar and the branch employees cleaned the vicinity of the ICICI Bank branch at Backbay Reclamation, Mumbai. Since then the employees of ICICI Bank branches across India have participated in this nation-wide cleanliness drive. On every working day, one ICICI Bank branch cleans its surroundings. Until March 2017, 646 branches of the Bank had contributed to the drive.
Extending the cleanliness drive to our residential areas
Inspired by the success of the cleanliness drive undertaken in the Bank’s branches, we launched Swachh Society Awards. The awards were aimed at creating awareness about the importance of clean, green and safe living premises and were launched with the support of the Municipal Corporations of Greater Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivili.
From July 8 to August 31, 2016, over 7,000 housing societies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region carried out a cleanliness makeover as part of the contest. The winners were felicitated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis at the awards ceremony held at the Bank’s headquarters in Mumbai. 27 societies were felicitated for their exemplary efforts in energy conservation, rainwater harvesting, waste management and adoption of clean-green technology.
