		Koushik lives with his parents and two sisters in a brick house with tiled roof having one room only. His father is a carpenter and earns about Rs. 2000/- per month. He is the only earning member and somehow runs his family consisting of 5 members.

		Brief Description of the student and how he/she has benefited from the donation:
		Koushik is a very good-natured boy and has strong determination at this age. His parents could not afford to buy a school bag so we bought one for him. In this small way, he has benefited immensely. Previously he used to carry his books by hand which was painful. He enjoys attending school due to the extra-curricular and cultural activities that have been introduced. He has been getting training in Yoga Bayam and Art. He is delighted as his main hobby is drawing. Previously there was no drawing Teacher in their school but now their school has got Dance and Music Teacher, Art and Yoga Teacher. Now he feels much more interested in attending school. His favourite subject is English and he wants to join the Police force when he grows up.

He has passed Higher Secondary. He is trained in Bratachari Dance from Thakurpukur Guru Saday Dutta Bratachari Centre and also trained from Jatiya Crira Sangha. He has won various prizes in district level and state level competitions and obtained certificate from more than 100 organizations recognized by Govt. of W.B.

		The teacher’s salary is being funded by ICICI’s Read to Lead Programme. The students under him are getting training in Yoga and benefit both physically and mentally.

		He would like to undergo further training from a National Level Yoga Institute like the Yoga Centre of Ramdevji. He believes that Yoga must especially be taught to the poor as it keeps sickness away and most cannot afford treatment for serious illnesses.

		Shrabanti lives with her parents, one brother and one sister in a brick house with tiled roof having 2 rooms. Her father is a fisherman and earns about Rs. 2000/- per month. He is the only earning member in the family and maintains his five member family with difficulty

		Brief Description of the student and how he/she has benefited from the donation:
		Though tender in age Shrabanti possesses a good personality and was the first girl to enroll for training in Yoga. Her parents and others discouraged her from joining having misconceptions that this form of exercise would cause deformity and lead to various other problems. But now Shrabanti is doing Yoga and her teacher is very satisfied with her progress. She opines that after practicing Yoga, her constipation has gone, she does not feel fatigued and she gets good sleep. She says that she feels hungry now. She praises her Yoga teacher and is happy that her school has undertaken this programme along with dance and music, Art and Computer Programme. She is happy as she can get training in each of the vocations. Her favourite subject is physics. She loves reading. Apart from school books, she likes to read story books and magazines. She has also received a school bag and undergone a health check up funded by ICICI’s Read to Lead Programme. After completion of her education in future she wants to become a school teacher.

		Brief Description of support and how it benefited the students:
		In the first quarter the following benefits have been given to sponsored students under Read to Lead campaign: -
		Teaching in Computer Teaching in Dance Teaching in Music Teaching Yoga Health Check up Distribution of School Bag
		The above support has helped the students to a great extent. The school had no teachers for the above vocations though Computer training has been included in the course curriculum. Students faced difficulties travelling to theComputer Training Centres in distant places as well as having to pay high charges. Now they are getting training in Computer Training centre of Bani Mandir which is situated in Vill.- Khordanahala and is close to their homes. They attend classes there after school hours or on Saturday which is a half day. Girls who have aptitude in Dance & Music could not avail of good coaching. Now we have been able to hire experienced teachers in these fields to coach the girls. Yoga training has been giving them good health, increased appetite and good sleep. A qualified doctor checking the health condition of all students is a great benefit for the school. The school bags have made the students very happy and encouraged them to join the school and take interest in studies. Earlier the school could not afford to hire such teachers. However, now the centre has got funds through Read to Lead campaign and the deficiency of the school has been minimized. The image and credibility of the school has also been enhanced to great extent as the school has got qualified teachers through this programme

		Sarbari comes from a needy family. She lives with her parents andbrother in a mud house with tiled roof having 2 rooms only. Her
		father is an agricultural labourer and earns Rs. 1500/- per month. He is the only earning member and runs his family with much hardship.

		Brief Description of the student and how he/she has benefited from the donation:
		The child is intelligent. Her favourite subject is English Literature. She loves dance and Music. She wants to join the Police Service after completing her education. Now she is learning music under the programme and has highly benefited, as she was not getting any coaching in music. Moreover, her father had no capacity to afford her private coaching. So she has been immensely benefited from the programme.

Brief Description of Student’s Family Background and Economic Status:

Prithviraj comes from a poor family. His father married another woman and stays with his second wife, leaving Prithviraj and his sister under the care and protection of his first wife- i.e. Prithviraj’s mother. His father visits his house sometimes and gives money for family needs, though insufficient to meet the growing family needs. His mother is a maid servant –cum-part time cook. His sister is in std 7th.The family atmosphere is quite disturbing for the children because of the quarrel between the parents and it is a cause of worry for the children.

Brief Description of the student and how he/she has benefited from the donation:

Prithiviraj is very restless and often gives a lot of trouble to the teacher and his classmates. He was very irregular in school and in his studies; hence he is very poor in academics. His favorite past-times were either watching TV or playing with his friends after bunking school. But he is also a talented artist- very good in drawing pictures. He likes Marathi language and wants to join the police force in future.

Prithviraj’s school teacher has referred him for the Remedial class run by IDEA in his school as a part of the ‘Read to Lead’ campaign.

Initially he was unable to sit and concentrate on his studies at the study centre. His attention span was less and was not interested in studies. Apart from the remedial class where a focus is given to improve children’s concentration through yoga and exercise, he is also getting opportunities to develop his study skill through various techniques.

Slowly with the individual attention from the remedial educators and counselling of the counsellor, there are tremendous changes in him. Now he has developed interest in studies and is regular in class. There is substantial improvement in studies as well. He asks questions and clears his doubts on his own. His overall behaviour has also changed. Earlier he used to shout loudly and beat his friends (just for fun), but now he talks politely and has stopped shouting and beating his friends.

Brief Description of support and how it benefited the students:

The winter dresses were distributed to all 333 students and the in

distribution ceremony the senior and prominent villagers along with the Sarpanch (Village Head, elected by Democratic process) participated and gave the dresses to the children . They were all very happy and appreciated the good gesture of ICICI Bank READ_TO_LEAD campaign.

The students are mainly from poor family and could not afford winter dress at their own. The winter dresses will protect the students from the cold season and reduce the absenteeism. With this there will be an overall feel good factor and improvement in their educational achievement.

They are an extremely poor family. There is no agriculture land with the family. There is no parental property and they live in a thatched mud house. All six members in the family are dependent on the father’s income who is a daily wage earner and the family is living below poverty line.

Brief Description of the student and how he/she has benefited from the donation:

The student could not afford a winter dress since parents are extremely poor and living below poverty line. By providing winter dress from the aid received from the “READ_TO_LEAD” program of “ICICI Bank”, the student was protected from the effects of cold weather and he could attend school in winter season reducing the absenteeism. The student is intelligent and his favorite subject is Mathematics and hopes to see his career as a teacher in the same subject

		Born in a poor agricultural family, Mr. Ananda Payare completed his B.Ed. education with hard efforts. His two brothers are teachers and other two brothers are farmers. His two sisters are also teachers while son is studying B.C.A. Mr. Ananda has implemented various ideas, schemes to promote the rural poor students. He has got first prize in the State Level essay competition for teachers in 1983 for his essay on “How to increase proportion of children poor and backward families in the school”

		In the Teachers Training Progamme funded by ICICI’s Read to Lead Campaign, Mr.Payare has got proper inputs for quality improvement in the education i.e. how to use the available local material to create educational material to explain effectively the basic concepts to the students. Due to the training, all teachers are enthusiastically working concentrating on the student as the focus point of overall education system.

		There should be 100% attendance of the enrolled students in the school on each and every day. All students should get quality education. He has got inspiration and support from his elder brother who was a teacher.

		Ajay is very sincere and obedient student. He likes the explanatory method of his teacher to solve the mathematical questions. He likes the clean and healthy school campus. He wants to become a software engineer in future. ICICI’s Read to Lead campaign has became very fruitful for him. It has encouraged for self study in the Learning Center at evening. It has also given an outlet to the creativity of the students.

Mr.Shivaji wants to get advanced computer training to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural children.

		Supriya belongs to a backward community of Kattugollahalli village and is the youngest in her family. Her older brother studies in 7th std. in nearby Hancharahalli village and her elder sister is in 4th standard in the same school where Supriya is studying. Her parents Narshimamurthy and Munikrishnamma are agricultural labourers dependent on daily wages. She is liked by her family members because of her good nature. She has a few good friends in her village and she plays with them after school. She likes Kannada very much and scores good marks in this subject. She wants to become a teacher and sometimes shows this to Mrs. Manila by mimicking her.

		Her family cannot afford to educate her. So, the donations received by the school to educate students like her are truly appreciated. Supriya gets free note books, uniform and also a medical check up. She does not have to pay any tuition fees either. Besides that, her parents have attended the parent’s meeting which have helped them to understand the progress of their daughter. In the summer holidays, she will be taking part in the summer camp free of cost.
