1. Who is an NRI?
An NRI is an Indian citizen who stays outside India

(a) for purposes of carrying out employment or any business or vocation;
(b) under circumstances indicating an intention to stay outside India for an uncertain
      duration;
(c) any Indian citizen deputed outside India for a temporary period in connection with       employment.

2. Who is a PIO?
A citizen of a foreign country (other than a citizen of Bangladesh or Pakistan) is a PIO if

(a) he/ she at any time held an Indian passport; OR
(b) he/ she or either of his/ her parents or any of his/ her grandparents was a citizen of
      India; OR
(c) spouse (not being a citizen of Bangladesh or Pakistan) of an Indian citizen or (a)
      or (b) above.

3. How do I open an NRE Fixed Deposit?
You can open an NRE Fixed Deposits either by applying online or by downloading the A/C opening form and mailing it to us at our India Address:

4. I am a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), I will be visiting an ICICI Bank Branch in India, what are the documents I need to submit to open an account?

 

1. Photocopy of the relevant pages of your current passport where your name, address, date of birth,      date & place of issue, expiry date, photograph, signature & stamp regarding stay outside India      appear.

 

2. Photocopy of Valid work permit/ employment visa (in case of expired visas, duly acknowledged      petitions made to the Visa Authorities for renewal of visas will be accepted as a valid document.)

 

3. At least one of the following address proofs (for First Applicant only)

  • Utility Bill
  • Driving License
  • Residence Permit (Govt. issued Identity card)
  • Credit Card Billss
  • Rent Receipt
  • Overseas / Indian Bank Statement

(All Originals should be present with you for verification)

5. I am a Person of Indian Origin (PIO), I will be visiting an ICICI Bank Branch in India, what are the documents I need to submit to open an account?

 
1.   Photocopy of the relevant pages of your current passport
 
2.1 Copy of PIO card
                    OR

2.2 Copy of past Indian passport of self / parent / grand-parent along with a self-declaration about        Indian origin
                    OR

2.3 Self-declaration for PIO as given on the Relationship Form
 

3.    At least one of the following address proofs (for First Applicant only)

  • Utility Bill
  • Driving License
  • Residence Permit (Govt. issued Identity card)
  • Credit Card Billss
  • Rent Receipt
  • Overseas / Indian Bank Statement

(All Originals should be present with you for verification)

6. I am a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), I will send my forms to ICICI Bank, India from Abroad, what are the documents I need to send?

 

1.  Photocopy of the relevant pages of your current passport where the your name, address, date of       birth,date & place of issue, expiry date, photograph, signature & stamp regarding stay outside India       appear.

 

2.  Photocopy of Valid work permit / employment visa. (In case of expired visas, duly acknowledged       petitions made to the Visa Authorities for renewal of Visas will be accepted as a valid document).

3.1 Attestation on the photocopies of all the above documents to be done by any one of the following -        Banker / Indian Embassy / Notary (or equivalent of notary as per applicable law).

                      OR

3.2 Any one of the following 4 documents

 
  • Copy of the latest statement of bank account or relevant sheets of passbook of your account in India / Abroad (for the last 6 months)

  • Copy of any letter received from your existing banker in India / Abroad (dated within last 3 months)

  • A cheque drawn on an existing banker in India or on your bank account abroad.
  • An original cheque issued by you and paid by your banker outside India
4.  A copy of at least one of the following Address proofs outside India (for First Applicant only)·
 
  • Utility Bill
  • Driving License
  • Residence Permit (Government issued Identity Card)
  • Credit Card Bills
  • Rent Receipt
  • Overseas / Indian Bank Statement

7. I am a Person of Indian Origin (PIO), I will send my forms to ICICI Bank, India from Abroad, what are the documents I need to send?

 
1.   Copy of the relevant pages of your current passport.
 
2.1 Copy of PIO card
                  OR

2.2 Copy of past Indian passport of self / parent / grand-parent along with a self declaration about         Indian Origin

2.3 Self declaration for PIO as given on page 2 of this Relationship Form

8. What is the minimum amount with which I can open a NRE Fixed Deposit?
The minimum balance for the NRE Fixed Deposits is RS 25,000
9. Are my NRE Fixed Deposits funds repatriable?
Yes. The principal amount and interest earned are fully repatriable.
10. Are they Taxable in India?
No, NRE Fixed Deposits are not taxable in India.
11. Can I open my account in any currency?
Yes you can open your account in any currency. We will convert your currency into INR and open the NRE Fixed Deposits. Your NRE Fixed Deposits will be maintained in INR only.
12. What is the tenure for which I can open a NRE fixed Deposit?
You can maintain your NRE Fixed Deposits for
  • A minimum of 1 year.
  • Upto a maximum of 10 years.
13. Can I have a Nominee for my NRE Fixed Deposit?
You can register nomination with this Account.
14. Can I have a joint account holder for this account?
You can have a joint account with another Non-Resident Indian(s).
15. What will happen to my deposit once it matures and I forget about it?
You don't need to worry at all. We will automatically renew the Fixed Deposits and it will keep earning you attractive interest rates.
16. Can I get loans against my fixed deposits?
You can secure loans against your Fixed Deposits.
17. Will I get a Cheque Book and an ATM-cum-Debit Card when I open an NRE Fixed Deposit?
No, You will not get a Cheque Book nor an ATM cum Debit Card with your NRE Fixed Deposits.
18. Can I appoint a mandate holder for my fixed deposit account?
No, a mandate holder can be appointed only for operating Savings account.

19. Can I close my NRE deposit prematurely?
