1. How do I open an NRO Savings Account?
  You can open the NRO Savings Account either by applying online or by downloading the A/C opening form and mailing it to us at -

2. What are the documents required for opening NRO Savings Account?
 

For opening an NRO Savings Account, the following documents are mandatory

  • Copies of the passport pages where your name, address, specimen signature, photograph and visa details are recorded
  • Copy of valid visa (the visa could be either in the passport or given separately)
   * You should countersign the copies with the words "TRUE COPY"
 

In addition to the above, you need to submit any two of the following documents:

Details of existing bank account in India like

  • Account number
  • Type of account
  • Branch name with full postal address including PIN, telephone number of the branch
  • Copy of the latest statement of account (with account number, branch name) in India, or first and last page of the passbook, showing name, address, account number, branch name as well as transaction details.
  • The transactions shown in the statement or passbook should relate to a period within the last 12 months..
  • Copy of any recent letter received from your existing banker. The account number should be specified in the letter.
 

In case you are a person of Indian origin not holding an Indian passport, submitting the following can complete introduction formalities:

  • A copy of relevant pages of passport countersigned by you.
  • Any cancelled paid cheque in original drawn on your Banker abroad showing your signature, bank name, account number.
  **In case you are unable to comply with any of the necessary formalities, you may alternately send - a copy of the passport countersigned by an official of Indian Consulate, High Commission or Embassy abroad.
 
3. What is the minimum amount with which I can open a NRO Savings Account?
  The minimum balance for opening an NRO Savings Account is Rs.10, 000.
 
4. Are my NRO Savings Account funds repatriable?
  No. The principal amount is not repatriable. However the interest earned is fully repatriable.
 
5. Is the interest taxable in India?
  The interest is subject to ( Indian ) Income tax deduction at source.
 
6. Can I open my account in any currency?
  Yes, you can open your account in any currency. But it is advisable to open an NRE Savings Account if you want to deposit your earnings from abroad. NRO Savings Account is meant for your Indian Earnings.
 
7. Can I have Joint Account Holders for my NRO Savings Account?
  Yes. You can have a joint account only with Resident / Non Resident Indian(s). Alternately, you can authorize an Indian resident to operate your account, by submitting a mandate letter. You can also register nomination for this Account.
 
8. How is the Ncash Debit card different from ATM card?
  ICICI Bank's Ncash Debit Card can be used:
- for transactions at merchant establishments.
- for account operation at bank ATMs both in India as well as abroad.
- Unlike an ATM card, which can be used only for account operations at limited ATMs, in India, ICICI   Bank's   Ncash Debit Card is applicable at over 30,000 merchant establishments and 1300 ATMs.
- Globally ICICI Bank's Ncash Debit Card is applicable at 11 million merchant establishments and   6,00,000 ATMs.
- Ncash Debit card offers you Lost Card Protection.
- moreover, it offers you zero liability from the time you report loss of your card.

NCASH Rewards Program
-ICICI Bank rewards you with 1 loyalty point credited to your account for every Rs.100 that you spend at  Merchant Establishments. Each loyalty point carries a redemption value of Re. 1.

Debit-cum-ATM Card
- The NCASH International Debit Card doubles up as an ATM card, allowing you to transact using India's    largest ATM network.
 
9. What are the limits on an Ncash debit card for NRI customers?
  Cash withdrawal: Rs. 25,000/- per day
+
Transactions worth Rs. 25,000/- per day
at merchant establishments.
 
10. What are all the charges associated with a Debit Card?
  As a special gesture, the annual fee of Rs. 99 is waived for all NRI's. There are no charges if you use your Debit Card in ICICI Bank ATMs. However, if you use your Debit Card in VISA ATMs, the charges are as follows:

Cash Withdrawal in India. . .Rs. 50

Cash Withdrawal in US . . . $1 + 2 % currency conversion charges

Cash Withdrawal in non-US $2.25 + 2% currency conversion charges

Balance Enquiry in non-ICICI Bank ATMs Rs. 25
We will not charge you for using your Debit Card for shopping in a merchant establishment except a 2% currency conversion charge.

 
11. How do I apply for the Ncash Debit card?
  Ncash Debit card is available for all NRE Checking account holders

- Download the application form.

- Fill in the details.

- Attach a recent photograph of yourself.

13. Can a joint account holder have a separate Debit card?
  Yes, a joint account holder can definitely be issued a separate Debit card.
 
14. Can I set my own limits for Automatic Fixed Deposits (quantum optima)?
  Yes, you can set any minimum balance limit above which, the funds from your savings account will get automatically swept into a FD for 1 year.
(Equal to or above Rs. 25,000*)
You can also set any limits for multiples in which fixed deposits should be generated. (Equal to or above Rs. 5000.)
 
15. What is the minimum balance for the Automatic Fixed Deposits (quantum optima) account?
  The quantum optima FD will get generated automatically over balance of Rs. 25,000* in multiples of
Rs. 5000.
*For all existing customers who have opted for Quantum Optima facility (before 15th August 2002), any amount in excess of Rs. 10,000 from the checking account would continue to be automatically swept into a Rupee Fixed Deposits account.

You can Use ICICI Bank's Internet banking facility for funds transfer within your accounts. All you need to do is to

  • Login to Internet Banking
  • Click on "e-cheques" section and follow the instructions given there.
 
17. Can I transfer funds from my NRO to an NRE Account?
  Sorry, funds from NRO account cannot be transferred to an NRE account since funds in an NRO account cannot be repatriated outside India.
