Important differences between Visa/MasterCard and American Express Chip and PIN technology

Cards on Visa/MasterCard Network:

For Credit Cards on Visa/MasterCard Network the PIN provided at the time of card issuance can be changed by you at ICICI Bank ATMs or through the IVR by calling our Customer Care.

  • Forgotten PIN: You may also change or generate a new PIN at any ICICI Bank ATM in India or on our Interactive Voice Response system (IVR) by calling our Customer Care

  • Non-receipt of PIN: In case of non-receipt of the PIN within 7 working days from the date of receipt of your card, you may generate your PIN on the Interactive Voice Response system (IVR) by calling our Customer Care

Cards on American Express Network:

Credit Cards on American Express Network use an “Offline” PIN capability for Point of Sale (POS)/Retail transactions wherein the PIN is encoded onto the Chip embedded in your Credit Card. This implies that the PIN provided at the time of card issuance cannot be changed by you during the course of usage of the card for POS transactions.

  • Forgotten PIN: In case you have forgotten your PIN, please call our Customer Care to place a request for reissuance of the PIN. The PIN will be reissued and dispatched to you at your mailing address. Please note that in case of multiple incorrect PIN entry attempts the Card will be blocked automatically and you will need to call our Customer Care for issuance of a replacement Credit Card.

    Please note that Cards issued w.e.f. June 2015 will get blocked automatically after 9 incorrect PIN entry attempts and Cards issued prior to June 2015 will get blocked after 3 incorrect PIN entry attempts. Once the card is blocked, you will need to call our Customer Care for issuance of a replacement Credit Card.

  • Non-receipt of PIN: In case of non-receipt of the PIN within 7 working days of receipt of your card, please call our Customer Care for reissuance of the PIN. The PIN will be reissued and dispatched to you at your mailing address.
